Paula Abdul Breakdown on American Idol

Paula Abdul suffered something of a breakdown and seemed confused on US TV show "American Idol" last night when giving her opinion on the competitors.

Whilst judging American Idol contestant Jason Castro- one of the five finalists- she gave an opinion on two tracks she thought he had sung- when he had only performed one!

"Jason, the first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear. The second song, I felt like your usual charm was missing for me, it kind of left me a little empty. The two songs made me feel like you’re not fighting hard enough to get into the top four.”

As the audience started giggling, Randy Jackson interrupted, “That was just on the first song, though, just on the first one.” Then, Paula Abdul exclaimed, “Oh my God, I thought you sang twice.” As the audience laughed again, Ryan Seacrest said, “Just once, but Paula, you’re seeing the future, baby, you’re seeing the future, she’s coming back.” Paula Abdul protested, “This is hard.”

After this it didn’t take long for American Idol fans to swarm the official American Idol message board with accusations that the show is rigged. Many fans were wondering how Paula Abdul could have possibly known that she wouldn’t like Jason’s second song, when he had yet to perform it!

American Idol Fans are wondering if Paula’s comments show that producers tell the judges what opinions to have about various contestants. This theory suggests that it is producers who decide which contestants are praised or criticized, which helps determine who eventually wins the competition.

Second rumor circulating among the American Idol fans is that Paula is having trouble with alcohol or drugs. Paula made another slip after Syesha Mercado sang her second song, Paula blundered once again. Paula said, “Brooke, I didn’t get to say anything on the first song or second, so I’m going to say it quickly.” Not only was Paula Abdul having trouble remembering how many songs the contestants had sung, but she was also having trouble remembering who they were, as she identified Syesha as Brooke.

There have been repeated rumors that Abdul has a drugs or drink problem after erratic appearances on talk shows and at events. Paula Abdul's spokesman, Jeff Ballard, told PEOPLE the incident is "really much ado about nothing." And when asked whether the Idol judge was drinking or under the influence of drugs during the appearance Ballard said: "Absolutely not."
